Brooklyn DA’s Office

Kin Ng

Kin has been a prosecutor in the Brooklyn DA’s office for over 30 years. During his tenure, he has tried a full range of felonies, including burglaries, sexual offenses, robberies, felony drug sales, felony assaults, revenue frauds, and homicides. His varied career has included management positions such as a Deputy Bureau Chief in ECAB and Deputy Bureau Chief in Criminal Court, and Bureau Chief of the Domestic Violence Bureau. From 2007-2013, Kin was the Director of Training for the office’s 500+ ADAs. He also ran the office’s summer legal and college internship programs, and trained police officers in issues of public integrity, ethics, and search and seizure. From 2013-14, he was an Adjunct Professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, where he taught courses in the American Judiciary and NY Criminal Law. In 2014, Kin was appointed Felony Deputy Bureau Chief of the Orange Zone Trial Bureau, and then in January of 2015, he was appointed Chief of the Immigrant Fraud Unit (IFU). Under his supervision, IFU successfully prosecuted offenders who preyed on Brooklyn’s immigrant population. These defendants included: a fake lawyer who offered bogus immigration services for a fee; employees who embezzled a non-profit church and stole from immigrant clients; and an organized group of scamsters who stole (as a hate crime) hundreds of thousands in cash and jewelry from Chinese immigrants through a “blessing scam.” From 2017 to 2020, he was promoted to Bureau Chief of Trial Bureau I – Red Zone, the first APIA bureau chief of a major trial bureau in the history of the office. In 2021, he was appointed Bureau Chief of Trial Bureau II – Blue Zone. Throughout his career at the District Attorney’s Office, Kin has lectured regularly at various government agencies and public interest/community-based organizations on issues relating to the criminal justice system, public service, diversity, and leadership in government. He has also worked extensively with local and foreign media to educate and raise awareness in the immigrant community regarding criminal justice issues, domestic violence, and community apathy. Currently, he is also an EEO counselor and a senior member of the legal hiring board. Externally, he is an active member of the Asian American Bar Association of New York (AABANY) and a founding member of its Prosecutors Committee. In addition, he is a founding member of the National Asian Pacific Islander Prosecutors Association (NAPIPA) and board member of its National Executive Board and the President of its New York Chapter. Kin is a graduate of Boston University School of Law, New York University’s Stern School of Business, and Stuyvesant High School.
