Brooklyn DA’s Office
Sabeeha Madni
Sabeeha Madni is currently the First Deputy Bureau Chief in the School Advocacy and Juvenile Crimes Bureau at the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office, where she evaluates and supervises cases for prosecution in Supreme Court pursuant to the Raise the Age Law. She has been an Assistant District Attorney in Brooklyn since January 2005. Prior to serving in this position, Sabeeha served as Deputy Unit Chief of the Human Trafficking Unit, as a homicide ADA in the Domestic Violence Bureau, and before that she investigated and prosecuted a variety of cases while assigned as a senior trial attorney to the Orange and Blue Trial Zones, the Civil Rights Bureau, and the Rackets Division.
Sabeeha is a seasoned prosecutor with a wide breadth of experience trying complex cases and delivering justice for victims and their families. She was the first ADA in all of NYC to conduct a jury trial during the COVID pandemic. In October 2020, she tried a sex trafficking case in front of the Honorable Judge Chun. She continues to try complex homicide cases despite moving into a management position years ago.
Sabeeha has been actively involved in helping to organize the annual AAPIA heritage celebration held by the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office every May and has served as a mentor for younger ADA’s in the office for over ten years. After COVID shut the office and the city down, she organized a mentorship program for AAPIA ADA’s in the office to provide extra support and prevent the feelings of isolation teleworking could create. She matched up senior attorneys with new attorneys, promoting one-on-one mentoring, and held monthly virtual group check-ins with mentors and mentees.
More recently she was selected as Chair of the Professional Development Committee of the District Attorney’s Racial Justice Task Force. The committee’s aim is to provide recommendations to the DA to promote and ensure the professional development of minority ADA’s through mentorship, increasing diversity in the workforce, equitable promotional opportunities, and career development and guidance.
Sabeeha serves on the Prosecutors Committee of the Asian American Bar Association of New York; she also serves as the Treasurer of the New York Chapter of NAPIPA and is a member of the Muslim Bar Association of New York.
Sabeeha is a graduate of SUNY Stonybrook and SUNY Buffalo School of Law. Sabeeha’s family came to New York in the 1970’s from India. She speaks Urdu and Hindi fluently. She is a long-time resident of Brooklyn.
